What happens during treatment
1
Diagnosis & imaging

Digital X-rays pinpoint the problem, and your doctor explains exactly what's going on and what to expect.

2
Numbing & access

The area is thoroughly numbed. A small opening is made in the tooth to reach the infected tissue inside.

3
Clean & seal

Infected tissue is carefully removed, the canals are cleaned and shaped, then sealed to prevent reinfection.

4
Crown placement

A custom crown is placed over the tooth — restoring full strength, function, and natural appearance.

Root canal therapy — saving teeth, relieving pain

A root canal removes infected or inflamed tissue from inside a tooth, cleans and seals the canal, and tops it with a durable crown. The result? Your natural tooth is saved, the pain is gone, and your smile stays intact.

With modern techniques and anesthesia, root canals at AP Dental are far more comfortable than their reputation suggests. Most patients are surprised at how smooth the process is.

Additional Services
Beyond root canals
Our endodontic care covers the full range of treatments for tooth pain, trauma, and complex cases.

Root canal retreatment

If a previously treated tooth doesn't heal properly or develops new issues, retreatment can save the tooth by removing old filling material, re-cleaning, and resealing the canals.

Apicoectomy

A minor surgical procedure that removes the tip of a tooth's root when standard root canal therapy isn't enough. It eliminates the infection at its source and seals the root end.

Cracked tooth treatment

Cracked teeth can cause sharp pain and sensitivity. Depending on the severity, treatment may involve a crown, root canal, or a combination to stabilize and protect the tooth.

Dental trauma care

Accidents happen. Whether it's a knocked-out tooth, a fracture, or internal damage, we provide prompt evaluation and treatment to save the tooth whenever possible.

Common Questions
Root canal FAQ

With modern anesthesia, most patients feel little to no discomfort during the procedure. In fact, the root canal relieves the pain caused by the infection. Any post-procedure soreness is typically mild and manageable with over-the-counter medication.

Most root canals are completed in a single visit lasting 60 to 90 minutes. More complex cases — like molars with multiple canals — may require a second visit. Your doctor will let you know what to expect upfront.

Saving your natural tooth is almost always the best option. Extraction leads to bone loss, shifting of neighboring teeth, and the eventual need for an implant or bridge — which costs more in the long run. A root canal keeps your natural tooth in place.

Common signs include persistent tooth pain, prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold, a darkened tooth, swelling or tenderness in nearby gums, or a recurring pimple on the gums. If any of these sound familiar, schedule an evaluation.

You'll receive a temporary filling or crown while your permanent restoration is crafted. Most patients return to normal activities the next day. A follow-up visit ensures everything is healing properly before the final crown is placed.
